More men have walked on the moon than been Ronald McDonald. Ronald is the story of the 1995 to 2007 inhabitant, Joe Maggard.

Director John Dower has struck gold here with Maggard. The Las Vegas based former McDonald hung up his red boots eight years ago, but he still dons the famous face and costume.

The story is almost too good, too fascinating. There’s a fear the camera will pan out, and the parodical DNA will reveal itself. Yet it’s all real. Maggard, the clown who wants to tackle childhood obesity and smokes fine cigars, is the genuine, fascinating article.
