Facebook Twitter Pinterest WhatsApp EmailWe’re all here really to see if Sword Of Destiny was worth the decade-plus wait. It totally was. Yuen Woo-Ping’s direction is strong throughout the wicked plot, and leads Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen carry the film with charismatic mastery in and out of the fight scenes. Despite all the wooing, an all-Asian cast speaking English seems off for this cult-classic sequel, and shout-outs to Jackie Chan’s Drunken Master feel all but heavy-handed in delivery. However, with breathtaking wirework, fast-paced action, and nods to cinematic cult Asian classics, Netflix’s Sword of Destiny is superb. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny is worth the long wait, but Netflix funding ‘western’ Asian cinema when great local films already exist feels bizarre.
