Before Carl Rinsch embarked on the disastrous 47 Ronin, he brought us a short, sumptuous and intriguing vision of a futuristic Moscow.

Notable for its eerie opening tracking shots and containing almost no dialogue, The Gift follows a messenger’s journey across the city to deliver a package to a wealthy family man.

The box becomes the focal point of an ensuing chase sequence, which has echoes of both I, Robot and The Bourne Supremacy. At its conclusion, Rinsch, like all good storytellers, leaves us wondering not just about the contents of the box, but what will happen next.
