Facebook Twitter Pinterest WhatsApp EmailWAYF director Max Joseph has made a name for himself in recent years as co-host of MTV’s Catfish series – a show that distilled 2010’s doc namesake for a pop audience. For someone contributing to the rise in reality TV quick-buck shock-baiting as seen on the channel, it was always going to jar seeing Joseph make a film about integrity and the dangers of selling out. If the idea of watching Efron awkwardly manoeuvre himself around a set of decks appeals, have at it; though anyone wanting realism – a trait this film desperately wants to project – will be sorely disappointed. Through phoned-in performances, a cringe-inducing script and lazy direction, We Are Your Friends sets the reputation of the EDM art form back years.
