Facebook Twitter Pinterest WhatsApp Email First loves and the fragility of memory are the predominant themes of Ben Briand’s 2009 Vimeo treasure; they are shown resplendently and wordlessly through some lusciously shot and scored childhood flashbacks. That the film’s cinematographer, Adam Arkapaw, would go on to win Emmys a few years later for his work on Top of the Lake and True Detective will come as no surprise to those who watch Apricot – his compositions, along with some smart editing, perfectly evoke the haziness of memory and the nostalgia of a first romance. Poignant and heartfelt, Apricot feels like a highly personal short from a filmmaker to watch. Do you have a short film you’d like to be considered for our Short of the Week feature?
