Bone Tomahawk is a film that colours outside the lines. A Western in spirit, but cannibalistic at heart, beautiful landscapes and meandering conversations mix with grizzly ends and an extensive runtime.

This lingering curiosity will turn away viewers as its long, slow oddness is not easy to digest. In fact several returns to this watering hole may be required to fully savour the true taste.

That said, this ably acted, low budget genre-twisting number stands strong and tall ahead of its contemporaries. A unique, engaging, wholly committed Western that could breathe new life into the genre.

A full-blooded, confident Western that’s strange, terrifying and indulgent. It won’t be to everyone’s taste but S. Craig Zahler has created a film that could redefine the modern Western.
