The Raid 2 is slow to start and its plot can sometimes grow confusing, but the brutal fights inject ferocious energy at every turn. Evans is hands-down the best action director working today and here he expands his range to more dramatic scenes. If there’s any justice he’ll be getting a Best Director nomination come the next Oscars. An unfocused opening is more than redeemed by a pulsating, unflinching final hour. The best action film since The Raid, and there’s no higher compliment than that.
